Fief Protocol Allocates 100M FIEF to Support Blood and Coin's Game Economy

bloodandcoin.substack.com

We are excited to announce that Fief Protocol is providing a 100,000,000 Fief Token (FIEF) allocation to support the Blood and Coin game economy.

FIEF is the native utility token for the Fief Protocol platform and is an integral component of the platform’s decentralized reward distribution engine, making it the ideal non-inflationary, in-game currency for Blood and Coin.

In this writeup, we will provide information pertaining to the significance of this strategic allocation and how it benefits you, the player!

The basics of Blood and Coin

While not the purpose of this writeup, here is a brief rundown of the core concepts that encompass Blood and Coin. Expect much more game lore detail and mechanism granularity as we progress.

Blood and Coin is set in a fantasy world, full of magic, creatures, and majestic wonders.

At launch, the game is centered around 5 main Factions:

  • Genn

  • Toar

  • Dalar

  • Kuzal

  • Vettiri

Factions are similar to Races or Nations within strategy games or MMORPGs, each with their own lore, strengths, weaknesses, and in-game assets (Units/Buildings/etc.) to establish unique play styles and strategies. These Factions are what emerged following the fall of “The Monarchy”, a unifying entity that ruled over the continent of Vitruvia and all global territories.

Prior to the fall, each Faction had a role within the Monarchy. Now, all Factions are competing for dominance over Vitruvia and the surrounding territories.

Blood and Coin’s ultimate Adventure features two major game types:

  1. MMO Base Builder - land-based strategy play that encompasses economic and battle objectives

  2. Action RPG - top-down isometric loot dungeon crawler built around a novel player-owned dungeon and enemy system

This two-style approach is designed to introduce a sustainable in-game economy that has access points for gamers of all skill levels and price points.

Blood and Coin is centered around scaled economy and conflict, where players interact at the micro and macro level.

Micro level interactions occur through champions, where players complete small-scale actions such as crafting, leveling, or trading in order to maximize the effectiveness of their individual characters with the ultimate goal of being a ruthless combatant.

Micro level players are natural consumers within the Vitruvian economy, requiring resources, materials and land access to advance their champions. The more advanced the champion, the more impactful it becomes in battle and thus, the more it can unlock to allow the player to advance in the in-game economy.

Macro level interactions shape the future of the game world as players manage their bases (land) to become as productive as possible. Peak productivity enables players to not only supply champions to sustain the economy, but also enables land holders to prepare for the inevitability of outright war between the Factions. Economic-centric actions will eventually give way to turn-based conflicts.

Thus, the choice is on the player – do you wish to grind away to make an unbeatable champion and rise through the ranks, or instead manage a limited-supply base to empower your Faction to economic and military dominance?

Where we stand in terms of timelines

We are in the early stage of Blood and Coin’s multi-year development. Throughout development, we plan to release mini-game experiences that infuse web3 rewards/progression with test builds of gameplay for early economy participants.

Note: the Ultimate Adventure of Blood and Coin is the end goal of our exploration of fantasy culture and gaming. Many other Adventures will be released in the meantime.

How FIEF works in Blood and Coin

FIEF will be represented within Blood and Coin as Gold. Each circulating piece of Gold within Blood and Coin will be tied to a locked FIEF at a predetermined ratio.

Blood and Coin does not plan on any centralized holding systems for FIEF, but instead will use decentralized smart contracts to manage the on-chain/off-chain crediting system and accounting.

Why FIEF (Gold) works as an in-game currency

It’s well-documented that the age of “GameFi'' has come to a swift and warranted end. By now, we as an industry have discovered that hyper-inflationary tokenized game currencies accomplish nothing but detract from the mission of player empowerment through true ownership of in-game assets.

We are taking a different approach with the use of FIEF as our primary in-game currency, as represented by Gold. FIEF is non-inflationary with a capped 500M token supply and is highly productive within a third-party protocol.

With this approach, we are able to reward players with an in-game currency that can be converted into an on-chain utility token with distributed demand, driven by activities both related and unrelated to the game of Blood and Coin itself.

This better positions the Blood and Coin economy to avoid the inflationary pitfalls often seen when the in-game currency derives its utility from actions that in turn produce more of the in-game currency – e.g., earning a fungible token from an in-game pet and that token is only used to then breed more in-game pets.

How the FIEF allocation is distributed

FIEF will be distributed in two forms:

  1. As FIEF – distributions made on-chain via decentralized application activity via Fief Protocol

  2. As Gold – in-game actions (both champion and land gameplay)

For champion play, Gold will be an integral part of the rewards associated with successfully completing dungeon crawls or other in-game actions, such as completing quests. Similar to other ARPGs, user activities will be rewarded with major loot drops, including in-game items (such as armor) and Gold.

For land play, Gold can be primarily earned through two means:

  1. Individual – acquiring land slots which allow you to place Gold-producing buildings (see below for a Vettiri Gold slot example) – these are very scarce

  2. Faction – capturing and holding territories. Each territory has associated rewards that are distributed to land holders of the Faction that controls it, as long as you have the right land slot and buildings placed!

For all players, Gold can also be earned by expertly navigating the in-game auction house where players buy/sell resources and other in-game assets for Gold in a peer-to-peer manner.

FIEF distribution economics

The 100,000,000 FIEF allocation represents 20% of the total 500,000,000 supply. This is a substantial allocation and underpins Fief’s commitment to the success of the Blood and Coin game economy. The allocation functions as a more sustainable and appropriate replacement for protocol fee share mechanisms that were previously explored.

The allocation is intended to provide 4+ years of gameplay incentives. Additionally, all Gold spent to complete game actions, such as building a Unit on your land or crafting a Weapon for your champion, will be redistributed into the reward pool.

Use of the FIEF allocation could begin as early as Q1 2023 to provide immediate on-chain utility for issued Blood and Coin assets. The planned utility will come in the form of Fief Protocol’s Loot Farms.

It’s important to note that while the Fief Protocol is allocating 100,000,000 FIEF to Blood and Coin, that does not represent the maximum amount of FIEF to exist within the Blood and Coin economy. We fully anticipate Fief Protocol users to lock their FIEF into Gold for use within our game economy, providing a very healthy balance of liquidity to offset reward distributions.

We plan on standing up analytics dashboards that allow users to track FIEF activity within the Blood and Coin economy, both in-game and on-chain.

Disclaimer:

Blood and Coin does not currently have any other on-chain currencies associated with its economy. The previous plan of having the in-game resources as tokenized assets has been adjusted in order to avoid pitfalls of other play-to-earn game titles.

The previously issued WOOD tokens were used by early game participants to acquire crates that contain Units, Buildings and Items – giving those players an early leg up in both land and champion game modes. These items will come into play in a future Adventure.

All unspent WOOD has been provided with substantial alternative utility in the form of Influence Points on the Fief Protocol platform. Previously issued STONE has simply been discontinued.
